TEFNI-2000 is a composite PTFE (polytetrafluorethylene) / Electroless Nickel coating that is very good in applications where sliding wear is involved and the load is well distributed. In non lubricated application, deposits of TEFNI-2000 can improve part life by reducing friction. This is especially true for light metals including aluminum, titanium and magnesium. The release and anti-stick properties of the TEFNI-2000 coating are excellent resulting in increased life for tools, molds, dies and coated surfaces.
The corrosion protection provided by TEFNI-2000 is enhanced by the high phosphorous content of the Electroless Nickel matrix. At a deposit thickness of 1 mil, a mild steel test panels will pass a 1,000 hour salt spray test in accordance with ASTM B117 without showing any signs of corrosion.
The coating as deposited will have a hardness of 300 to 350 HVn (30-35 HRc). The coating can be heat treated at 500F for 4 hours or more to achieve a hardness of 400 to 450 Hvn (41-46 HRc). Heat treating at 700F for a short period of time will sinter the outer layer of PTFE into the surface of the deposit and increase the concentration of PTFE at the surface.
The deposit can be applied directly to the base material where a coating of less than .0002 inches are required. Optionally, to increase corrosion resistance, a base coating of high phosphorous Electroless nickel can be deposit under the TEFNI-2000. This is very beneficial, especially when depositing the coating on aluminum or other soft substrates.
Properties:
At 2,000X the cross section shows the finely dispersed PTFE particles in the Electroless Nickel Matrix. The dispersion of the PTFE throughout the coating makes it far superior to topical applications of Teflon to the surface of the Electroless Nickel.
